Top 5 achievable resolutions for the new year
It can be easy to feel pressured at this time of year to “better yourself” and make drastic changes to your lifestyle. This can be overwhelming and a stressful way to start a new year, so we’ve put together our top five achievable resolutions for 2025.
1. Getting active
The great thing about setting your own resolutions and goals is that you can adapt them to fit your lifestyle. Whether you want to sign up to a gym and start your fitness journey or simply want to get your body moving more each day, adding a bit of movement into your life especially in these darker months can do so much good.
Challenge yourself by signing up for a PureGym membership in 2025. With 24/7 opening hours, you can find time to squeeze in a workout whenever the motivation strikes. PureGym also offers instructor-led classes, which can be a fun and easy way to work out – bring a friend and laugh while you sweat it out.
Or, take it easy with a stroll around the beautiful Pollok Park. Just a 10-minute bus or drive from Silverburn, the park offers a wide, open space perfect for a leisurely walk to see the adorable resident Highland cows. There’s even a free weekly Parkrun every Saturday at 9:30am!
2. Be more social
If you’re aiming to make an effort in 2025 to meet up more with friends, family, and loved ones, then you’re in luck. At Silverburn, there are a number of great destinations for a visit. From cosy coffee spots to dinner and drinks, we’ve got something for every social gathering.
Meet up for a bite to eat on the weekend at Bread Meats Bread or Zizzi. Or, grab a coffee at Tim Hortons or Costa for a catch up over a warm pastry. If cocktails are on the agenda, TGI Fridays and Stàillin have everything from classic cocktails to inventive twists on your favourite drinks. Paired with an amazing main course or dessert from the extensive menus available, this is a perfect way to spend a winter’s evening!
3. Read more books
Whether you breezed through your reading goal last year or you’re still halfway through the book you last picked up in February, aiming to read more is an easily achievable resolution to set.
Head to Waterstones to pick up an old favourite or a new discovery, and try and schedule in some time to read a few pages. Maybe a book with a beautiful cover will motivate you to pick it up, and squeezing in a few pages on your commute to work or on a weekend morning will get you through book number one in no time.
The Works always have unbeatable deals on kids’ books, so you can settle down and encourage the little ones to read a few pages together. It’s a great alternative to screen time when the weather isn’t playing ball.
4. Practice mindfulness
Aim to set aside some time for yourself in your busy schedule in 2025. One easy and effective method of quieting a busy mind and reducing stress is to incorporate journalling into your routine. Head to Waterstones and pick up a beautiful journal that you’ll look forward to writing in, and set aside five minutes each day to write.
Start with things you’re grateful for each day, exciting things you’re looking forward to, or simply write whatever comes into your head. You’ll be surprised to see how quickly it’ll lighten your mood!
5. Attempt Veganuary or Dry January
Start your year on the right foot by challenging yourself to complete Veganuary or Dry January. With many pubs and restaurants encouraging you to complete the challenge, you won’t be stuck for choices when you head out to eat or meet friends.
Holland & Barrett is full of delicious vegan snacks and supplements, while restaurants like Wagamama offer delicious vegan options all year round. Achieving a resolution or challenge in the first month of the year will set you on track to tick off the rest in the following months!
