Ice Skating Questions
When does the ice rink open?
- The ice rink is open from 22nd November 2024 – 5th January 2024. It is only closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day. Opening times may vary, please check the booking page.
How long are the skating sessions?
- The skating sessions are 45 minutes long and run on the hour.
What time should I arrive before my skating session?
- Please arrive 20 minutes before your skating session, this is to ensure your skates are fitted correctly and you receive your full allocated time on the ice. If you need any assistance fitting your skates, please speak to a member of staff.
Is there a minimum age for ice skating?
- The minimum age for ice skating is 3 years old to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
Are skating aids available?
- Yes, we provide a number of fibreglass weighted penguins on the ice that operate on a first-come, first-served basis. There are a limited number available, so it is best to arrive at the venue before your session to ensure the availability of a penguin aid. Skate aids are available for under 10s only. There are a limited number of skate aids at each rink and skaters must be under 110cm to use them.
Do you provide helmets for ice skaters?
- Yes, we offer helmets for rent to all skaters to enhance safety on the ice.
Do I pay extra for skates?
- Skate hire is included in the ticket price.
Can I wear my own skates?
- Skaters are welcome to bring their own skates, noting this will not alter the price of your ticket. Speed Skates are not permitted on the ice, and organisers reserve the right not to allow a person to use their own skates if they decide that they are not suitable. We do not sharpen personal ice skates.
Can I take photos?
- Spectators can take photos from the viewing areas. Skaters are advised to keep phones away during skating. Silverburn on Ice is not responsible for damage to phones on the ice.
What should I wear?
- Even though the ice rink is undercover, it can be very cold, so we suggest warm clothing, gloves and a good pair of thick socks!
What are the ice skating terms and conditions?
- Skating is undertaken at your own risk. Please skate to your ability. The rink team reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Refunds will not be provided in these cases.
Can tricks be performed on the ice?
- It is a public ice rink, that caters for all ages and abilities. The ice rink is not for professional use, and such as skating at speed, skating backwards, tricks and acrobatic manoeuvres are not permitted – this is for the safety of all skaters.
Are there rules to follow when skating on the ice?

Can I book the entire ice rink for a private party?
Do you have insurance?
- While On Ice prioritises your comfort and safety, please note that ice skating carries an inherent risk of falls. Participation in skating is entirely at your own risk, and Blue Martini and Silverburn are not liable for any injuries sustained while using the rink. Additionally, there is no insurance coverage for injuries that occur during ice skating.
Ticket Queries
How can I book tickets?
- We recommend that all sessions are pre-booked online to avoid disappointment and avoid queues on site during busy periods. Tickets may be booked on the day, subject to availability.
Can I get a refund for my booking?
- Tickets are non-refundable, so please ensure you choose the correct ticket at the time of booking. Tickets can be gifted to another person, and you may reschedule your booking if requested at least 7 days in advance.
Food & Drink Information
Can I bring my own food and drink?
- No, external food and drink is permitted within the ice rink.
Venue Information
Where is the ice rink located?
- The ice rink is located within our Red Car Park, near our Greggs and M&S entrance.
I have a car – where do I park?
- Silverburn has over 4,500 free car parking spaces, including disabled and parent & child spaces. During busy periods we recommend parking in our free multi-storey car park on Cowglen Road which provides direct access to the malls via lift or stairs. More information on parking can be found here.
I don’t have a car – where is the nearest public transport?
- Silverburn is accessible by public transport and has its own bus station to the rear of the centre. See more advice here
Can I store my belongings e.g. coat, bag?
Can I smoke or vape in the venue?
- Smoking and or vaping/e-cigarettes are not permitted within the venue
Are dogs allowed into the venue?
- No dogs are permitted inside the venue, except assistance dogs.
